General Child Safety

Child Proofing Your Home
A sometimes satirised yet common aspect of modern parenting is that we go to all sorts of measures all for the simple cause of keeping child safety as top priority. The truth is, while bundling them in bubble wrap and cotton wool is a bit extreme, there’s no shame in taking the right precautions to ensure they’re well protected – it’s only natural instinct to look after them when they’re at their most vulnerable.

Baby Monitoring Radios
One of the most popular ways of keeping tabs on your baby without having to devote every waking second to them is through the wonders of technology, specifically through baby monitors. We at Olivers not only provide one-way radios, but also supply models with built-in thermometers to measure room and baby temperature.

However, it’s often agreed that being able to listen to your child from another room is no substitute for making actual checks regularly, so don’t rely on the monitor too much if in the rare event your or the baby’s radio should power down or there’s a problem that you wouldn’t be able to hear through the intercom.

Summertime Baby Protection
For the summer months, the muggy conditions can often cause as much discomfort for your baby as it does for everyone else in the house.

If your child’s room is experiencing problems in controlling the temperature, its worth investing in a humidifier to help everyone get a good night’s sleep and keep your baby’s body temperature in check.

Other items available regarding child safety are insect nets for cots, cribs and beds. Insect bites can often cause swelling for days afterwards, and can then start bleeding if scratched, leaving the wound open to infection.

Clearly nets should be a necessity to your child’s health if your house is in an area where insect life is rife and the pesky unwanted guests can find their way inside – have a look around to see what design would work best.

Childproof Gates & Locks
Before buying into guards and rails, do a quick safety assessment of your house. Don’t pass everything off as a risk to child safety – instead try and observe what arouses their curiosity and where they’re most likely to go if given free roam. While locking close gates are often a vital safeguard for houses with a flight of stairs, there’s also a variety of locks and guards for a number of purposes around the house, including a number of versatile cabinet locks to keep medicine cupboards shut tight.

Child Safety – Outdoor Equipment. For when you’re out and about, it can only take a moment for you or your child to become distracted, and suddenly they’re lost. Child harnesses may look restrictive, but it’s generally agreed that a child’s curiosity can still be satisfied, but with a gentle tug you know they won’t be wandering off too far without you knowing.

Child car safety.
In the car is obviously a time to make sure your child’s seated and buckled up correctly. As well as a range of items to make sure their baby car Safety is top notch, we also have a range of shades and blinds to keep cool during the summer.

Also available for outdoor child safety is a range of swimming equipment to keep them happy in the pool, from water wings to full-sized inflatables, plus cossies and goggles to keep the skin healthy from over-exposure to the chlorinated waters.

CHILD SAFETY TIPS

Keep children with you at all times while shopping.
Accompany and supervise children when using public restrooms.
Remind children to stay in the area where they became separated. Alternatively, you can plan a designated meeting spot ahead of time.
Teach your children to look for people who can help if they are lost such as a uniformed security officer, salesperson or mother with children.

Stages of Child Development

Child development is a concern for all parents; in fact, many parents worry as to whether their child is experiencing the normal stages of child development. Because childhood development encompasses mental, emotional, social, physical and language abilities, tracking developmental milestones is a great way to ensure that your young one is growing at a healthy rate.

Early Child Development: One to 12 Months

The first year of a child’s life is an important one in her development. In fact, your little one will go through many important development milestones during this time.

From one to four months, your child will cry, laugh, frown and smile. In addition, she will also make cooing sounds in order to express her emotions and communicate with you.

Once your child is five to eight months old, she will be able to put together single syllables (phonemes); this language development continues from nine to eleven months, when your child will continue to babble and also gesture meaningfully.

At 12 to 14 months, your child might say his first word.

Your baby will probably start crawling at from 6 to 10 months. On average, babies start to walk from seven to eight months or from around the one year mark.

Early Child Development: Toddler Development

Your toddler’s development also encompasses physical and language abilities, as well as mental, social and emotional development.

At 13 months and onwards, your child’s language development will continue to expand. Her vocabulary will improve to include words such as “Hello”. She will also be able to attempt to lift heavier objects; meanwhile, her appetite will begin to decrease as her height and weight starts to more or less stabilize. Her eating habits will become increasingly picky.

From 18 to 24 months, your toddler will have clearer speech skills. In addition, she will start jumping and will be able to go up stairs by herself, although she will still require help going down stairs. Her motor skills will also continue to improve, and she will be able to open jars and turn book pages. Toilet training is also an important component of this stage of childhood development.

During the stage of 25 to 36 months, your child will have the ability to follow basic verbal commands. In addition, her speech will become increasingly clear. Normal child development also means that at this stage, your child will be able to brush her teeth. Continued social development means that children at this age will be able to identify their friends by name.

Early Child Development: Preschool Development

At 3 years of age, childhood mental development continues to become more sophisticated. Your child will have an increased attention span and will also be able to match similar objects such as circles and squares.

Improved social and emotional abilities linked to preschool development means your child will be able to express her emotions, as well as learn to distinguish between herself and others using the correct pronouns.

In addition, a three year old child will have the ability to jump, climb as well as put on his shoes by himself and dress himself with help.

At four years, normal childhood development means that your preschooler can play easily with blocks; language capabilities during this stage of early child development means that your child knows basic grammar as well as can hold conversations. The use of adjectives, such as “cold” and “hungry”, also increases.

A four-year-old child will be able to count up to 10 and identify friends and family by name; continued social development means that kids will be able to play while abiding by rules and ask why.

The last stage of early child development is the five-year mark. Preschoolers at this age will know the difference between yesterday, today and tomorrow, and will also begin to establish more friendships. Improved physical and motor skills means that your child will have better overall body coordination. Language development also continues to develop at this period of early childhood development, and children at this stage will have a vocabulary of 13 000 words.

Learning About Child Safety Products

Child safety products are essential in every home to ensure that the children that live there are safe and secure. Child safety is a very important issue that all parents and careers need to fully understand when they have children. Having the correct safety measures in place in the home will not only ensure that the children are safe, but can prevent accidents happening.  With the right amount of research parents can find out the recommended safety equipment to have, and where to purchase them.

There are plenty of different options for parents to decide on, and the quantity of safety products that are bought is often due to the needs and budget of the parents.  There are different child safety products for every room in the home. Child safety has become a huge business, and many different companies are taking the stress out of deciding which products to buy. Some companies are even supplying gift baskets with a selection of different products included.

These are designed to help new parents make their home safer.  They will often include door and cupboard locks and latches, corner crib guards and thermometers for the bath.  The amount of child safety products available is massive, and new parents may be overwhelmed by them all.  It is better to have more products than not enough to ensure that every element of the home has child safety in mind. Although these products are great they do not replace common sense, and every parent needs to display a level of self monitoring.

The child safety products are designed to assist the parents, and not to replace them as the guardian of the child.  Baby gates are one of the most useful pieces of child safety equipment that parents can buy.  Not only do they stop toddlers going up stairs, but they can also be used to stop children from entering certain rooms.  Animals can also be shut in kitchens and utility areas allowing the baby to crawl around in safety.  Another very important feature is socket covers as children’s fingers are very small and they love putting them where they shouldn’t.

Kitchens are very dangerous places for children, and this room should have the most child safety products fitted. Cupboards should have latches on, ovens and hobs should have guards, and overall there should be a baby gate. If everything is safe and secure when parents are in the kitchen the children can play safely with no worry of accidents or injury. Children will always get into things they shouldn’t do, and having the right child safety products will help to protect them from serious injury.

Educating the children as to the palaces that are safe to play, and areas that are unsafe is very important.  As they grow they will begin to understand the dangers that surround them even at home. Child safety does get easier as the children are growing; the older they are the more they fully understand how their actions can be dangerous. Until they are at that age child safety products give parents peace of mind and comfort knowing they have some assistance in the area of safety.

Child Care Centre ? A Second Home for Children

With an increase in nuclear families and working mothers, the demand for child care centres has been on the rise. Cashing on this opportunity, child care or day care centres have mushroomed everywhere but not every centre is able to provide the best care facilities to your child. Remember that leaving your child in a child care centre is a difficult task as you may suffer from separation anxiety when your child is not within your sight all the time. The child care centre you choose to entrust your child in should make matters easy for both – you and the little one.

The child care centre atmosphere should be such that a child feels cared for and loved in the mother’s absence. Parents must do a proper study of child care centres in their area or around before zeroing in upon one. Talk to other parents who have used child care centres in the past. Ask questions about the facilities provided by the centre, safety measures adopted, first aid and transport facilities, how are the teachers/ care givers and attendants, do they feed and take care of the child’s hygiene etc. A child care centre should literally be a second home for your child; otherwise it can make a negative impact on the child’s psychology.

Check whether the centre has other children of your child’s age-group, visit the centres and compare facilities provided and the curriculum followed. Attend a class and see the children-teacher/ care giver ratio, interaction levels and so on. Make sure that whatever is being taught is age appropriate and challenging but fun for the child.

Once you have finalised upon a child care centre, take your child along and see how he/she reacts to the space. Initial distress is to be expected because it is a new environment for them but after a while, keep checking whether a child is returning home in a good mood and whether he/she has had meals and is clean and tidy. It is very important that along with fun and learning they eat and maintain a healthy living in a child care centre.

Most of the child care centres do have all the facilities, so finding one that’s most appropriate for your child could be challenging. That is why interacting with other parents and the centre staff is very important to check on the progress of other children as well as your child.

There is no need to get worried if your child takes more time to adjust compared to other children. Each child is different in parameters. But do check how the Centre deals with the adjustment period and whether they are active in settling the child. It is tremendously difficult for every parent to leave their child in another’s care. Child care centres do understand this and can try and ensure that saying bye to each-other does become easier with each passing day.

urgent need for child care

 ABOUT PARENTING AND  PREGNANCY

There is a need to differentiate between pregnancy and parenting.
Pregnancy occurs before childbirth. Parenting occurs after childbirth. Naturally, if there is no pregnancy, there is no need for parenting.
Normally, both male and female couples decide when to become pregnant.
But nowadays, pregnancy has become an extremely sensitive issue because it is the cause for unnecessary childbirths and unwanted increases in the human population.

Women can become pregnant due to having sex with their male partners. It can happen as many times as wanted. Thus they can give rise to many new born babies.

The more the number of babies that are born the more the woman will be burdened to take care of those babies.
The babies must be grown according to their requirements like proper food, environment, and so on. This has to take place for at least 3 years. After that the babies grow up to become young children. They gradually learn to understand the world.
Parents must teach by examples what to do and how to do. It means that they have to tell and do things repeatedly and also tell their young children to do the same. For example,    they   could  be taught  how   to chew   and eat food, go to   bathroom, how   to    walk how to   lie down,    and wash their hands on. Teaching babies how to walk is very dangerous because the legs of a very young baby are too weak. It must be delayed a bit.
The children may be taken out of the house a few times. But long exposure is not safe. The interior of the house is best and safe for young babies.
No distinction must be made between male and female babies.
Great care must be taken for at least 3 years. When the babies grow big enough then it can be decided to select them for kindergarten schooling.
Schooling must be considered only when the baby is able to walk properly, and also talk and think.
But early schooling is also the cause fiord ore trouble for the baby -child. It is because they still have a weak and fragile body and mind.
To enforce them    to learn does not sound good to me.
I think we have to wait for a few more years before deciding for schooling.
I studied kindergarten level at the age of 4 and 5.
I do not   know   what I studied. I kept going to   school    for   as long as I   was required.

Then I joined primary school at the age of 6. I failed once in the primary level. It was because there was no guidance or teaching for me.
It was because I Was exposed to a sudden tough high level of learning at such a young age. I had to study, maths, and also two languages.

The children come to know the world only when they cross the age 5.
They are dependant on their parents for everything. The so called good and bad qualities of children do not come all of a sudden.
They come not only due to parenting but also the outside world. For example, parents know that young children must not smoke and drink. It means that there should not do those things themselves in the sight of children.
They must also not expose young children to the television as it can cause shocks to their weak hearts. Computers also must be abandoned.
It must be Maintained until their children reaches the age 15.
Afterwards, the children will gradually become mature enough to realize what is good and what is bad.
Young children need not have to understand the world all of a sudden or within a short period. Parents need not be in a hurry up mood to make their children become mature, behave and act properly.
Maybe continuous explaining for a few years can make them realize good and bad things.
There should be good family backing and support to encourage and support their children to make them understand things.
The children who mature fast will succeed in life soon. For others, it will be a slow walk.
Self-realization will come only after tee children encounters a lot of sufferings, ordeals, pains so on.
Parents must continue to provide moral support.
When parents find fault in their child’s behavior or action they must immediately tell them to correct it and do things the right way.

The situation becomes totally complicated in case of mentally handicapped children.
There is a need to differentiate between pregnancy and parenting.
Pregnancy occurs before childbirth. Parenting occurs after childbirth. Naturally, if there is no pregnancy, there is no need for parenting.
Normally, both male and female couples decide when to become pregnant.
But nowadays,

Pregnancy has become an extremely sensitive issue because it is the cause for unnecessary childbirths and unwanted increases in the human population.
Women can become pregnant due to having sex with their male partners. It can happen as many times as wanted. Thus they can give rise to many new born babies.

The babies must be grown according to their requirements like proper food, environment, and so on. This has to take place for at least 3 years. After that the babies grow up to become young children. They gradually learn to understand the world.
Thus, parents must make sure their children go through the early stages of life safely, without any mishaps, accidents and diseases.

Poverty at young age is very disturbing for the growth of children.
In that case parents find it difficult to look after all their children’s needs.
Poverty can lead to malnutrition and non – communicable diseases.
So the parents must know their own strengths and weaknesses beforehand, as far as growing children is concerned.
They must be capable of supporting the growth of their children; otherwise they should have not given birth to them, in the first place.

It is a pity that many parents do not realize this and pay the price for it, later on.
