Ingredients

Flour, 2½ cups
Sugar, 1 cup
Milk, ½ cup
Canola oil, ½ cup
Egg, 1
Almond flavoring, 1 tsp
Salt, ½ tsp
Nutmeg powder, ¼ tsp
Baking soda, 1 tsp
Flavored toppings, 1 packet

In a large bowl, cream egg, sugar, butter and Canola oil and then stir in almond flavoring. In a smaller bowl, dissolve baking soda in milk and add to the sugar-butter mixture. Shift flour, salt and nutmeg powder together, stir into creamed mixture. Drop a tablespoon onto a greased cookie sheet, flatten with wet fork or wet fingers and sprinkle with toppings. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 350º F until done. Cool on a wire rack and serve with warm milk. Truly, one of easiest sugar cookie recipes for kids!

Ingredients for Icing

Confectioners’ sugar, 4 cups
Meringue powder, 3 tbsp
Warm water, ½ cup
Almond extract, ½ tsp

Beat on low speed meringue powder with confectioners’ sugar, until the mix is smooth. Add warm water and beat, until very glossy and stiff and then stir in the almond extract. Use the icing immediately, else it will become hard.

Ingredients for Cookies

All purpose flour, 2¾ cup
Unsweetened cocoa powder, ¾ cup
Softened unsalted butter, 1 cup
Granulated white sugar, 1¾ cup
Eggs, 2
Pure vanilla extract, 2 tsp
Salt, ½ tsp
Baking powder, 1 tsp

In a large bowl sift flour, cocoa powder, salt and baking powder together. Beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, add eggs one at time, beating continuously. Continue beating, add vanilla extract and flour mix, until you have a smooth dough. This can be done either using an electric beater, or hand and a spatula. Wrap dough in a plastic wrap and refrigerate for about one hour. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough and cut out desired shapes using a cookie cutter. Place cookies in a pre-heated oven to 350º F , until done. Once they are done, cool on a wire rack. Frost with icing on the cookies, make sure it dries completely before serving or storing. Store in an air tight container to maintain the taste of these yummy cookies.
