Mental health is not merely the absence of mental illness, but it also the ability to cope with the challenges in life. Mental health is as important as physical health to everybody. Depression, anxiety, attention deficit, conduct disorders, suicidal thinking, and other serious psychological problems are striking more and more children and youths. Conservative estimates say one in every ten children and adolescents now suffers from mental illness severe enough to cause impairment.” Even if detected earlier, unfortunately many children and youth do not receive the help they need. Some reports are there that most children and youth who need a mental health evaluation do not receive services and that the rates of use of mental health services are also low.Parents and adults must take care of the youth’s mental health. The parents and adults must talk with the youth, be a good role models to them, advice them to choose good friends, and monitor their activities.There is a growing and unmet need for mental health services for children and youth. Mental health services are important for student’s and youth’s success. Prevention programs help in early identification of mental health problems in youth. These programs provide education on mental health issues, violence prevention, social skills training, harassment prevention, suicide prevention, conflict resolution, and screening for emotional and behavioral problems. You may have heard of first time parents who frantically sterilise everyone and everything that comes within a 10 mile radius of their baby, only to find their bundle of joy trying to eat dirt in the garden. What is within the parents control is the nutrition of their children at home and the education on food which they will take with them to the outside world.

A parent’s role in their child’s nutrition begins much earlier than most think. First and foremost know that we are what we eat, so be mindful of who you choose to have children with on all levels. Most of us understand the effects of hereditary illness, but foods and pollutants that a parent carry can cause damage to their children.

Three months of preconception care should be observed by both parents, it has been said that the soul of a child is here three months prior to conception. To help fertility and general well being, alcohol, tobacco, pollutants and stress should be avoided and vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and exercise increased. Breastfeeding is recommended as it’s linked to intelligence due to high levels of essential fatty acids in the milk, which also contains antibodies, vitamins, minerals and pure water. But it is effected by the mother’s nutrition so feed both of you well. There is a strong link to childhood diabetes resulting from allergies to the protein in cow’s milk and also beef, which affects the pancreas. Breastfeeding mothers are advised by paediatricians to avoid drink cow’s milk and eating beef for this reason. Be cautious with soy milk also as it has been linked to cancer.

Don’t think child minders, nursery and school teachers are qualified to make health decisions for your children. You are responsible for your child’s health and never think you’re being a difficult parent if you specify what you want your child to eat or more importantly not eat. Find out what school dinners consist of and if you don’t agree with them, make packed lunches or request alternative meals be put on the menus (there’s no harm in asking).

Financial constraints are there because cheap foods are normally bad foods and high prices are put on health. However, once your children know what they like, find health food wholesalers, bulk prices are surprisingly reasonable saving you weekly shopping time and money.

Become your child health care practitioner. Refined carbohydrates (white bread, flour, sugar, pasta etc) only give a quick burst of energy but aren’t filling so our children are eating too much. They have hardly any nutritional value and no fibre which all lead to obesity. Whole foods (wholegrain rice, raw fruit and vegetable, lentils, beans, nuts, seeds, seaweeds etc) provide longer lasting energy, fibres, protein and essential oils which all build beautiful children with healthy organs and alert brains.

Consult nutrition consultants, homeopaths, herbalist and allergy testing centres before making and appointment with your GP, see the money as an investment for you to learn about your child’s health, pay attention and get them to explain everything. The more you learn, the more you can teach your children. They will become your doctors, as every good student surpasses their teacher, and we can create a healthier generation, who will enjoy nutritional freedom from common industrialized illnesses and diseases.

Personal Hygiene Importance

A good hygiene is the key to good health. This is the reason why you should start teaching your children the value of personal cleanliness while they are young. The sooner they become acquainted with good hygiene, the more chances they will have of growing to be healthy individuals. Your hair needs to be well groomed as well. You can talk them through the routine you will be setting up for their daily care and hygiene, the first few times. This will help them to know what to expect and may help them relax a bit. Most elders are reluctant to let someone else administer their personal hygiene. It gives them a sense of being dependent and having lost their dignity.

In the process of doing all these things, many things ranging from tiny particles of dirt of different types to invisible germs come in contact with the finger nails. Health workers, like doctors and nurses, veterinerarians, butchers, garbage cleaners make use of their fingernails. These professionals are usually aware of the importance of maintaining good hands and fingernails hygiene and therefore less susceptible to fingernail borne disease than the general public, who don’t care. Importance of Baby and Child Development Services

Study after study has shown that the healthier children are the better they learn. That’s why it’s so important, especially in a child’s formative years that they get the nutrients they need. But, in addition to physical nutrition, it’s important that children receive emotional and mental nutrition as well.

Child development services are a relatively modern invention. Prior to the 20th century, there were no such services. In fact, in many countries, children were considered property and their value seen as simply how well they could carry on the business and interests of the parents.

Nowadays, however, children are seen as valid entities in their own right. And in the more civilized and enlightened countries there is a clear recognition that improving the welfare of the child, indirectly improves the welfare of the country as a whole.

Parent’s however, have a much more personal interest in the development of their children.

They want to ensure that their child is developing at least on par with other children of the same age and preferably with some advantages. Parents, consciously or not, are always comparing their child’s progress with other children. For example: What age are they beginning to talk? What is their height compared to other children of their age? How is their hearing? Their eyesight? And so on.

Most parents are not experts in raising children. As with previous generations, they raise their kids as they were raised and continue to learn as they go along. Child development services are no replacement for parents but they can help parents to recognize when their child is developing slowly or not at all in a certain area. Recognition of these states can allow the parent to intervene soon enough in a child’s development to make course corrections before it’s too late.

Many childhood psychological, behavioral, and physical problems can be traced directly to the physical and psychological nutrients that they receive every day.

To ensure that your child has the best chance of succeeding not only today but in the future as well, you should periodically schedule appointments with your child’s health care practitioner for baseline health testing and evaluation.

Health care practitioners have created baselines for the age at which a baby can follow an object with their eyes. They know at what age a child will respond to a noise. They know at what age a child should begin to talk, walk, and to recognize themselves as an individual. They can help you determine if you need to alter the nutrition that you’re feeding your child or to determine if your child should see an audiology or other type of specialist. They can even provide you with advice on seemingly mundane things such as should you use a baby walker for your child or should you allow them to watch TV or not. In short, the help of these experts can be invaluable in tracking the progress of your child.

These appointments can do much to help a child to build up his or her personal infrastructure traits to allow them to attain their full potential as they reach young adulthood. Failure to do so may cause your child to inadvertently miss one or more of the key stages in their childhood development and could adversely affect them the rest of their lives.

Discover The Importance Of A Healthy Eating Plan

If you’re a healthy weight and you feel good most of the time, you might think you don’t need to worry about a healthy eating plan.   You might be one of the lucky ones who just instinctively chooses the right foods and never really has to give much conscious thought to what you put in your mouth.  Or you might be one of the lucky people who seems to able to eat anything and never have a problem. 

If you’re like the rest of us, though, you have to be very careful about what you eat.  A healthy eating plan might not be something we all consciously think about, but we should.  Most of us try to make healthy choices each time we eat something, and we might even quickly consider what else we’ve eaten that day or week before we eat again.  But we usually lack an overall picture of our diets.

Most of us really don’t realize how much fat we eat, for instance.  And most of us eat far too much sugar without even knowing it.  We don’t usually worry about following a healthy eating plan until we need to lose weight, or until our doctor tells us our cholesterol, blood sugar or blood pressure is too high.  Or worse, our doctor tells us that all of those things need improvement. 

That’s when most of us suddenly decide we need a healthy eating plan. But if we had been following a healthy diet, we might have never had health or weight problems to begin with.  So it’s never too early to start formulating a plan for healthy eating, not only to stay at a healthy weight (or lose weight, if need be) but to stave off those problems that so many other people face like diabetes and high blood pressure.

If people in your family tend to develop diabetes later in life, or if there’s a history of heart disease, high cholesterol or high blood pressure, then the sooner you start following a healthy eating plan, the better.  You’ll be less likely to develop those same diseases if you start taking care of yourself now.  And the good news is it’s never too late. 

You might think you’ve spent 40 or more years eating what you want and you’re probably already headed toward those illnesses—and you might be right. But if you start following a healthy diet today, lose any excess weight, and make conscious choices about what you eat (and how much exercise you get) you automatically lower your risks for developing those diseases.

It’s especially important to follow a healthy diet, not just for yourself, but for your children and other family members.  Kids do as they see you do.  If you show that nutrition and health are important, your kids are more likely to grow up concerned about health, too.  And they’ll have a better chance at avoiding those same illnesses. A healthy eating plan can help you, and get them off on the right foot.
